How long have you been at Charlton Road?

For about 30 years. During this period, a group of us was commissioned by Charlton Road to start a church in Lichfield, which is where my wife, Maggie, and I live. However, after multiple years, it was God's will for the church to close, which is when we returned back to Charlton Road.

What is your favourite thing to do in Birmingham?

When possible, I'm always eager to watch cricket in Edgbaston.

Are you a Villa or Blues supporter?

Being Welsh, I follow rugby and cricket. Sadly though Welsh rugby and cricket are not too strong at the moment. Perhaps, I am living in past glory. Haha.

What do you appreciate most about the church?

Charlton Road is my spiritual home, where I can meet and worship God with like-minded Christians. I have always loved our mid-week gatherings too.

How long have you been at Charlton Road?

I began attending the mid-week Bible study at Charlton Road when I took a NHS job in Birmingham in 1995. I was lodging in hospital temporary accommodation. In 1996 my wife, Kathryn, and I moved to Tamworth, and we have been part of Charlton Road ever since.

What is your favourite thing to do in Birmingham?

I love eating out, so naturally I very much enjoy dining out in the many great restaurants in the city centre.

Are you a Villa or Blues supporter?

I was born in Derbyshire so I support Derby County.

What do you appreciate most about the church?

Charlton Road is a very friendly and Bible-based church, full of ordinary people serving an extraordinary God.

How long have you been at Charlton Road?

I first attended when I was in my late teens, but then left to go to university in Bradford. About 10 years later, after moving around the country with different jobs, I returned back to the Midlands and came back to Charlton Road. I have been here ever since (almost 30 years!).

What is your favourite thing to do in Birmingham?

My wife, Hazel, and I enjoy taking a break in various coffee shops around the area (and sometimes indulging in a cake).

Are you a Villa or Blues supporter?

The closest team to where I was brought up was Villa. So they have always been my team.

What do you appreciate most about the church?

Charlton Road is a straightforward, relaxed church. For everything we do, we try to base it on what the Bible teaches.

How long have you been at Charlton Road?

I am quite new to the church and to Kingstanding. My family moved to north Birmingham in August of 2025. Needless to say, there is lots that I'm learning about the area, but I find that thrilling.

What is your favourite thing to do in Birmingham?

As newcomers to the area, we are discovering all that Birmingham has to offer. So if you have any recs, please let me know. From week-to-week, I most look forward to watching my son's football matches and my daughter's dance practices/recitals. My wife, Michelle, and I always fancy checking out new pubs.

Are you a Villa or Blues supporter?

Up the Villa! Even while living in the US, I had loads of respect and admiration for Villa. Now that we're here, they are the team we support. That said, I also want the Blues to thrive. As an American, it's fun being able to cheer for a team in the Premier League and a team in the Championship.

What do you appreciate most about the church?

I love that the church don't take themselves too seriously but they take the gospel and the Bible seriously.
